Rambling

Our Rambling Group meets roughly once a month for a morning ramble, followed by an (optional) pub lunch.   This group is open to all and new members are always welcome.   
All planned Rambles for the rest of 2026 are listed below.  Car lifts may be available. Routes may change according to the weather.   Unless stated otherwise, meet at 9.30 at Northwood Recreation Ground car park, or at 10 am at the start.  Please let John Featherstone (01983-291116) know at least three weekdays in advance if you wish to come to the pub lunch.  And, if the weather is doubtful on the day, please phone John to check whether the Ramble will be taking place.

Friday 27 March
Start: St Helens Green Car Park (free parking).
St Helens – 4m – easy.
Lunch: The Vine, St Helens.

Friday 24 April
Start: Shorwell (free roadside parking)
Shorwell – 4.5m – moderate, short but hilly
Lunch: The Crown, Shorwell.

Monday 4 May, Bank Holiday – Christian Aid Sponsored Walk
Parking: 9.30 @ Fort Victoria (free parking).
Fort Victoria, Yarmouth, Freshwater & Bay, Totland – 10m – moderate.
Lunch: please bring own picnic food.

Start: Tapnell Farm (free parking) Walk East
Tapnell Farm & surrounding hills – 3.75m - moderate
Lunch: The Sun Inn, Calbourne.

Friday 26 June
Start: Mottistone Manor Gardens Car Park (free parking).
Mottistone Manor & the Coast – 4m - moderate
Lunch: The Crown, Shorwell.

Friday 31 July
Start: Ventnor Park (free roadside parking)
Ventnor, St Lawrence, Woody Bay & coastal path – 5m - moderate
Lunch: The Wight Mouse, Chale.

Start: Quarry car park Highdown Lane (near Highdown Inn) – free parking
West High Down – 3m - moderate

Start: Brook Village Road near Badger Lane & Brook Farmhouse Cottages
(free roadside parking)

Start: Free car park opposite The Priory, Carisbrooke.
Carisbrooke Castle & surrounding area – 4.5m - challenging
Lunch: The Blacksmiths, Carisbrooke.

Friday 27 November
Start: Asda Car Park (customer free parking for 4hrs)
Newport – 4.5m - easy
Lunch: Arreton Barns.

Friday 18 December (one week before Christmas)
Start: Quarr Abbey Car Park (free parking)
Quarr to Ryde Pier & return (walk or bus) - 2m each way - easy
Lunch: Quarr Abbey Cafe.
