In 2023 Cowes Baptist Church achieved a Silver Eco Church Award!

The Eco Church vision is "to care for Creation as an integral part of loving our neighbours and following God faithfully". The award scheme encourages churches to care for creation in practical ways. Click here for information about the scheme.
We registered on the scheme in 2020 during the pandemic. Although we were unable to access our premises we did explore aspects of 'creation care' and what we might do practically.
In 2021 we began to think how we could to look after our grounds better
for wildlife and to improve biodiversity. We also wanted to provide a
welcoming amenity for church and community use.
In 2022 Bulbs and tree saplings were planted. We planted daffodils, tulips and crocus bulbs with the help of Tuesday Toddlers!

John and Graham planted native tree saplings along the border fences.

Now a colourful carpet of daffodils and crocuses is established and a hedgerow of hawthorn and field maple - is growing steadily. What a wildly wonderful world!

In the summer of 2025 we arranged for Swift nesting boxes to be installed high up on the church wall. In the summer of 2026 we will be looking out for Swifts arriving from Africa to breed on the Island ... hoping they will find our nesting boxes!
