What to Expect
You will be greeted at the door by one of our friendly volunteers. If you let them know that it’s your first time at Cowes Baptist Church, they can introduce you to someone who will look after you during the service and tell you useful stuff like where the toilets are!
A typical service lasts about 60 minutes. Judith our pastor takes a few minutes to greet everyone and share what’s going on in the church and any updates on our wider church family.
Usually we sing - we use lots of different music from modern worship songs to timeless hymns. People usually stand to sing if they are able, and the words for each song are projected onto a large screen so you can easily sing along.
Our services are Bible-based - either a reading, a dramatization or occasionally a video. Judith or a guest speaker will use they reading as a basis for some teaching, to help you make a meaningful connection to help you in your everyday life. There will also be moments of quiet reflection and prayer. We have monthly services focused on the Lord's Supper, or Communion, usually the third Sunday of the month. We have an Open Table, which means that you do not need to be a member of CBC or baptised - if you are a believer, then you are free to share bread and wine with us.
After the service
At the end of the service, our volunteers usually prepare some refreshments - to give time and opportunity to reflect on what’s been taught, meet new people and learn about how to get more connected and involved at Cowes Baptist Church. This usually comprises tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits, but sometimes our generous volunteers will provide yummy home-made cakes.
Occasionally we will extend that to a soup lunch, particularly if we have visiting speakers. Volunteers provide lovely hot soups with fresh bread (always with gluten-free and vegetarian options) and these are free to all - our gift of hospitality to you.
