What is Cowes Baptist Church like?
You will be warmly welcomed any time you want to visit. Below is a little taste of who we are - what we are like, and how we fit into the world.
Where everyone can belong…
People come in all shapes and sizes – different ages, abilities, colours, sexualities, ethnicities and backgrounds. At CBC, we follow Jesus’ example and seek to actively include those who often feel excluded by society. For us, Church is not a particular place or building, but a family of believers, a community that worships together, and supports one another in serving God, each other, and the world.
Where people, young and old, are supported and encouraged…
We want to encourage all people, old and young, mature believers, those who are new to faith, and those who are just exploring. We want to support each person on their faith journey and discover new and imaginative ways to build a community that cares for everybody, in spiritual, emotional and practical ways.
Anyone who wishes can be part of a pastoral group where members commit to keeping in touch regularly, looking out for one another and praying for one another.
Our small groups are varied and meet at different times and in different ways, and are designed to create a relaxed, informal setting where people have the time, space and freedom to ask questions, share experiences and connect with others on a deeper level. We welcome anyone to say hello and find out more.
Where everyone can worship, learn, and be re-energised
We are all different and we all worship, learn and encounter God in different ways. We try to offer a variety of styles, resources and opportunities in our services and other spaces, to help everyone connect with God. Whether it is through music, song or silence, reading, listening, praying, creating or just being, we hope you will be inspired, challenged and refreshed. Why not join us for a Sunday Gathering, a Small Group or a children’s or family activity.
If you want to find out more about the Christian faith we also, from time to time, run the Alpha Course, the Bible Course and the Prayer Course. Keep an eye on our News page for information about any upcoming courses.
Where we care for people’s wellbeing in Cowes and on the Isle of Wight….
We care deeply about the wellbeing of our community, and run activities across all ages and interests, including: Open the Book Assemblies at local schools, Tuesday Toddler Group, CBC Ramblers, Renew Wellbeing Cafe.
We are passionate about social justice and get our hands dirty through links with local charities and volunteering with Street Pastors, School Pastors, Foodbank, Frontline (a debt and benefit advice charity) and Carisbrooke Priory (a centre for prayer, reflection and healing).
Where we are part of something bigger…..
We are part of Baptists Together (BUGB) and are affiliated to the Evangelical Alliance.
We work for transformation in the lives of the poor worldwide and for the planet that is our home by supporting Christian Aid and BMS Worldwide, particularly through links with workers in Uganda and Chile, and by caring for our environment. In November 2020 we achieved the Bronze Eco Church award. Check out how we are continuing our Eco Church efforts, working in line with the BU Environment Network.
