Links with the Community
Cowes Baptist church employs a full-time Community Worker and Caretaker, Graham Cherry, who maintains the church building and manse and also provides practical help for those in need in the local community (including the church family).
Members of the church are involved as volunteers in a number of Christian initiatives on the Isle of Wight including Carisbrooke Priory (a house of prayer and healing), IOW Foodbank, Frontline Debt Counselling, Street Pastors, School Pastors and the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. The senior Free Church chaplain at HMP Isle of Wight is also a member of the church.
Cowes Baptist church works jointly with other churches in the town as well as with other Baptist Churches on the Isle of Wight. The ministers of the Baptist churches on the Island meet for fellowship monthly and the church families come together quarterly for joint meetings, normally with a guest speaker and a meal.
Christians from the churches in Cowes meet for prayer fortnightly and have regular prayer breakfasts. We also work jointly to organise various events such as fund-raising concerts for Foodbank and other local charities.
